Phones should be allowed in school because students will have a device that can entertain them during breaks. Also, in emergencies, students could call their parents or anyone. But in classes phones must be silenced or they should be taken. Parents can also track their students location. Scientists studied that 48 percent of parents use the phone to monitor their child’s location. Students are also using their cellphones in the classroom to access digital textbooks and, most commonly, to take photos of lecture slides. Having mobile devices in the classroom allows students instant access to the latest news, information, statistics, etc. Moreover, many of these tools help educators identify problems in their lessons or among individual students, which can help educators take effective action. Polling apps, for example, might be able to capture audience engagement and comprehension more easily than hands raised in a large class. Flipd is another tool teachers use to measure, maintain, and increase student engagement. Textbooks are no longer the most relevant sources of information. This generation has grown accustomed to instant, updated information.  Also, having digital textbooks on their mobile devices gives them easy access to the materials. Many digital textbooks are constantly updated and often, helpful, creative, and a lot cheaper than those old heavy books. No one wants to carry a big textbook in school. “I get bored in school most of the time and my phone keeps me occupied,” annonimous middle school student said. Lastly, using social media can keep students interested in class and encourage them to participate in the discussion. Some teachers create twitter hashtags or message boards students can use during class discussions to share thoughts and ideas. This can be especially helpful for students who might not be comfortable speaking up or actively participating in class.
