The crowd cheering, moms praying that their sons do not get hurt, kids getting hurt, and the yelling of the coaches, welcome to football! Every year, there is a game, called the opening game. This years game was against La Canada Varsity football. This year’s team is staffed by coaches Dika Firmansyah, and Moises Arreola. The team started the game off on defense, meaning HMS won the coin toss, and elected to kick. The HMS defense was on lockdown mode, and did not give up a single point for the first quarter. Michael Prappas (8) played Tight End, and had 2 touchdowns for the Varsity team. Will Hotaling (8) also came out with a touchdown, along with Max Grizzel (7) who received deep 40 yard diving catch, thrown by QB Nikko Mavridis (8). Niko also played a great game with a high completion rate. There were no sacks on the HMS offense side, led by linemen Brendan Long (8), Jay Bell (8), and Brendan Gill (8). Other star players were Cameron Richardson (8) and Jayden Holloman (8). Richardson had an interception in the game, along with many great rushes, along with Holloman who also had some amazing rushes. The HMS defense kept La Canada from scoring for all 4 quarters. Defensive line was on point in the game with many off sacks, and 3 pilled flags by Ryan Qu (8), along with tons of other tackles by Prappas and Bell. Our cornerbacks were also on lockdown mode, allowing no deep catches, or touchdowns. An interception was caught by Richardson, which led to a scoring drive. The game ended with no injuries on either side, and a blowout win by HMS, with a score of 26-0, a great start to the 2017-18 season for the Foxes.
